Bodycam Footage Of Jermaine Petit Shooting In LA Released

Bodycam footage of LAPD officers shooting unarmed Jermaine Petit has been circulating on social media showcasing senseless violence from police officers.

Bodycam footage of LAPD Sgt. Brett Hayhoe shooting Jermaine Petit from *inside* his vehicle has been making its rounds on social media and has the LA community calling for answers. The officers pursuing Petit on foot realized he wasn’t carrying a gun. But the supervisor’s actions resulted in a contagious fire from Daryl Glover & his partner.

In the footage, Jermaine Petit is seen walking away from two officers who have their weapons pointed at him. The officers have responded to 911 calls about a combative man with a gun. They are clearly concerned that the black object in his right hand is the weapon in question.

As the first officer gets a good look at it he stated “It’s not a gun, bro,” he exhales, lowering his weapon. His relief is palpable.

As Petit continues to walk away from the officers, Sergeant Brett Hayhoe’s vehicle can be seen swooping in alongside him. A close inspection of the footage from inside the vehicle shows that Hayhoe had his gun trained on Petit for most of that time.

The reflection of Hayhoe’s arm and gun in the console is shocking – LAPD policy explicitly prohibits firing from moving vehicles, except under exigent circumstances. According to the bodycam footage these circumstances didn’t warrant such outcomes. Petit, 39, was handcuffed at the scene and taken to the hospital in stable condition. He was later arrested on two outstanding felony warrants for resisting an officer and assault with a deadly weapon upon a police officer.
